The Celtic World – Europe´s Lost Legacy

The Celtic World – Europe´s Lost Legacy is the untold story of the wild Celts in Northern and Central Europe.

In the first millennium BC, Celtic culture flourished, with its mysterious rituals, cruel beauty and unbounded communities. But all of a sudden the culture of the Celts collapsed and almost disappeared. They did not leave behind any written words, but instead deep traces in the mythologies, landscapes and societies of Europe. The Celtic World is an untold chapter in the story of Denmark and Europe.

The Celtic World – Europe´s Lost Legacy opens on 9 October.

The Mayans

The history of the Mayans spans thousands of years in present-day Mexico and Central America. It is a fascinating story of people’s ability to develop and adapt in difficult conditions. The Mayans built magnificent pyramids and believed that nature was a living being – they made sacrifices to maintain the essential balance. In the special exhibition on the Mayans, we can perhaps find new answers to the questions that we still ask ourselves today.

The special exhibition on the Mayans opens in autumn 2026.

The Journey of Odysseus

Homer’s heroic poem about Odysseus is both one of the first great, epic stories, and also provides us with a mysterious picture of a dramatic epoch in history. In the special exhibition about the Journey of Odysseus, we can explore the historical background of the story in classical Greece. Here, we meet universal themes about nature and human nature, morality, male and female roles, and especially man’s timeless urge to go on adventures to foreign worlds.

The special exhibition about the Journey of Odysseus opens in autumn 2027.
